Where do we go when we die?

Traditionally, Navajo people are taught not to speak about death except under certain circumstances. Satan would love nothing more than to blind the minds of our native people from considering the most important question that weighs upon the mind of every person, "What happens after we die?" *Read 2 Corinthians 4:4. Out of love for our people, it is imperative that I share with you the answer to this most important question. You must prepare for what comes when this life is over. The Bible is God's Word to His beloved creation and contains the truth about what comes next for every person regardless of race or cultural background.

1. The Bible teaches that there is more to a person than just a body and a mind. As God's creation, you are an eternal
soul. Genesis 2:7 says "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." One day your body will die according to Hebrews 9:27 and when your body is returned to the Earth, your soul, your spirit, your consciousness, the real you will return to God from whence you came. You will live forever somewhere! People don't simply stop existing.
2. The Bible teaches that there are two places a person goes after their body dies. God's Word tells us of Heaven and of Hell. Many do not like to accept what the Bible teaches about a real place called Hell and only want to believe in Heaven. But if the Bible is wrong about Hell then how can we be sure it is correct about Heaven? You cannot pick apart what you do and don't want to believe in the Bible. It is either all true or it is a lie. If you trust the Bible on Heaven, then you must accept what it says about Hell. *Read John 14:1-6 and Luke 16:19-31. God loves you and does not want you in Hell, so He has given His Word to show you the truth about how you can go to Heaven when you die.
3. How can a person be sure that when they die, Heaven and not Hell is where God will allow them to live for eternity? Can a person know for sure where they will go or is it a toss up? According to I John 5:13, God doesn't want you to live your life guessing, wondering or nervously hoping you will go to Heaven, but rather he wants you to "know" that you have eternal life. Here are four simple questions to help you know whether or not you are on your way to Heaven or Hell:

ONE - Are you willing to admit that you are a sinner?

A sinner is anyone who has done at least one thing that God does not approve of as right or righteous. A sinner has at any one point broken any of God's laws. According to Romans 3:10 and 3:23, everyone is a sinner that has fallen short of God's perfection. While God loves you and wants you in Heaven, He will not allow you to bring sin into a perfect place like Heaven. Are you willing to admit that you are not perfect and have broken God's laws? If not, then you are not on your way to Heaven and need to come to a place of humility where you are willing to admit that you have fallen short of God's standard. Jesus cannot be your Savior if you won't admit that you have sin from which you need saving.

TWO - Are you willing to acknowledge the consequences for your sin?

Romans 6:23 says that the consequence for sin is "death". In fact, Revelation 20:14-15 shows that this penalty of "death" for sin is not just a physical death, but a spiritual death called the "second death". In your physical death, your body is separated from family and friends, but this "second death" or spiritual death, your soul is separated from God by being placed in Hell forever. It is a death sentence to our relationship with our Creator. Although an awful thought, do you accept that you have broken God's law and the "second death" is a real penalty when earthly life is over? If yes, then keep on reading and hear how Jesus took responsibility for your sin.

THREE - Are you willing to accept that you cannot be good enough to get to Heaven with your sin and that Jesus died on the cross to pay for your sins to make a home in Heaven possible for you?

Romans 6:23 says that eternal life in Heaven is a free gift from God through Jesus. Sin has consequences, but Jesus took those consequences. He died on the cross, paying your death penalty so that you don't have to pay it yourself by going to Hell. Romans 5:8-9 says that God loved us so much that He sent His own Son, Jesus, to endure our punishment on the cross so that we can be "saved from wrath through him." When someone asks 'Are you saved?'; what does that mean? It means have you accepted Jesus gift that saves anyone who doesn't want to go to Hell, but wants to go to Heaven. Do you believe that Jesus died on the cross for you? You have a choice to pay for your own sin in Hell or accept Jesus' death instead!

FOUR - Are you willing to repent of your sin and false beliefs and trust in what Jesus did for you on the cross to take you to Heaven when you die?

When you stand before God after physical death, whether or not you get into Heaven will not be determined by whether you were a good person. God will not ask if you were baptized, a church member or whether you prayed prayers. *Read Ephesians 2:8-9. All that will matter in that day is if your sins have been washed away and paid for by the only One who

can, Jesus. If not, no matter how spiritual you may be, then you will not be allowed into Heaven. *Read Psalm 1:5-6.

DO YOU WANT TO BE SAVED?

If you believe the Bible and have answered 'YES' to all four of these questions, then you know what you need to know in order to make a choice to call upon the name of the Lord. Romans 10:9-13 emphasizes that accepting salvation is simple and your race or background doesn't matter at all to God. You can simply pray (talk to God) and ask Him for the free gift of salvation that Jesus paid for with His own blood by dying on the cross for you. If you ask God, genuinely trusting in His Word to save you from Hell, according to the Bible, you will without a doubt go to Heaven when you die. Do you believe? Will you ask Him now?
